People-Powered Ads Named Among Top 10 Most Promising Digital Initiatives

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Netexplorateur has named SocialMedia.com as a 2010 “Netexplorateur of the Year” for it’s People-Powered Ads.

We are psyched to be receiving this award just weeks before officially launching our new end-to-end social advertising platform that enables publishers to create compelling social ads that tap into the voices of their unique, vibrant communities. People-Powered Ads flow from the platform, using real messages from real people.

Below, Seth Goldstein answers the question: Did People-Powered Advertising stem from the limitations of conventional media advertising?

Netexplorateur is an independent global observatory for information and analysis on the issues in the ongoing digital revolution. It creates an annual list of the top 100 most important emerging trends in the digital world.

SocialMedia Developer Ankur Nagpal Highlighted In BusinessWeek

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

At SocialMedia we’ve not only had the pleasure of helping developers monetize their applications, but also promoting the developers themselves. This past week we managed to connect one of our top developers, Ankur Nagpal, with BusinessWeek for a great article written by Rachael King.

We got to know Ankur as he started developing apps (over 100) while using our network. Some of them he’s continued advertising on, while selling off others. He’s done it all while still an undergraduate at U.C. Berkeley.

Here’s an except:

Over the past four months, the 19-year-old sophomore at the University of California-Berkeley has made more than six figures creating more than 70 personality quizzes for Facebook. “The kids know that there’s some money involved but I’ve kept it fairly low-key as far as the actual money,” says Nagpal, who declined to give an exact figure. He’s using the money to pay for college, but hasn’t bought a new car or any other pricey items that might give away how much he’s earning.
