Facebook Connect: This Is A Big Deal
Facebook has announced a new initiative called Facebook Connect (blog). Facebook Connect will allow Facebook users to “connect” their Facebook identity, friends and privacy to any website. One of their initial launch partners is Digg.
This is really a feature that’s been a long time coming and is a sensible evolution of the platform. Facebook started their data initiatives back in 2006 when they launched the offsite API, which allowed website developers to pull Facebook’s information into their own sites. Then came the Facebook platform, which enabled developers to integrate their applications into Facebook. Finally, Facebook Connect takes both ideas to the next level by enabling deep seamless integration with Facebook off site. Facebook applications are sure to follow.
