Free Money: Facebook Holding FbFund Competition
Facebook’s still got some of that $10 million FbFund they announced back in 2007 (ages ago, I know). With a quirky video, FB’s announced the latest round to apply for grants. Winning applicants will receive anywhere from $25K-$25,000 for their startup. Applicants have until 8/29 to apply, and will be weeded out through several rounds of review. It seems like a no brainer for any moderately sized developer to apply.
To get an idea of who’s going to score some cash and an endorsement, take a look at their guidlines and the fist 10 wining startups (Challenge, Connected Weddings, Course Feed, more …). Not only do each of these apps more closely follow FB’s newly minted guiding principles, but they also tend to be similar to a lot of startups that currently exist outside of Facebook. Challenges is similar to Bix, or some of the self improvement websites currently on the web. Podclass and Zimride are also ideas that exist outside of Facebook.
