Improving Feed Quality: Facebook Adds Comments
It’s been widely reported that Facebook has added comments to their mini feed. Justin Smith with Inside Facebook has screen grabs.
Why is this important? It’s another sign that Facebook is looking to improve feed quality, and in turn app quality. I’ll hazard a guess to suggest that Facebook will be taking comments into account when grading the value of a newsfeed item, in the same way they’ve added small, medium, and large feed stories as another signal or quality.
This impacts developers, because news feed items have consistently been referenced as one of the second most important viral channels after direct invites. If newsfeed items have a higher bar to be noticed, then it can clamp down on the channel. Developers will have to start creating content that inspires conversation.
