Quiznos Giving Away Subs For Subscriptions

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

It’s been a hobby of mine to track interesting social media campaigns. Tech firms like Dell and HP have been the first to get with the program, while fast food has been a close second. Burger King, has been the most notable entrant, giving away a free burger if you axed 10 of your friends on Facebook.

picture-26Now Quiznos is giving away some free food if you just sign up for their site (link). Likely it’s in response to Subway’s compelling $5 foot long jingle. Quiznos, although less publicized, also sells $5 sandwiches.

In total, they’ll give away 1 million subs to people who sign up for the site. As you can see, at 67K given away, they still have a ways to go. While I like the tag line, it’s concise and appealing (who doesn’t want free food?), the campaign is like a big neon sign built off the electric grid. It doesn’t lend itself to be shared within social media, nor have I seen it being promoted there. Facebook Connect could be used to broadcast a user’s sign up to their social network. A simple “share this” button could make it easy for users to pass on the deal.

Would You Sacrifice Your 10 Best Friends For A Free Whopper?

Would you sacrifice your 10 best Facebook friends for a free Whopper? Well, that’s essentially what Burger King is asking social networkers to do with their new Facebook app. Users can add the app, and in exchange for virtually sacrificing their friends, they’ll get a coupon good for one free Whopper.

I’d have to give Burger King credit. They really understand how to create an attractive hook within social media that can earn attention from users. They certainly got mine. Previous campaigns included Whopper Virgins and the Subservient Chicken.

WARNING = I found out that sacrificing a friend really removes them. Sorry Dave
